Earl Fenner

Earl Fenner is a business leader with almost thirty years of experience in the building materials industry. He has managed operations across North America and international markets, holding full P&L responsibility and leading teams of more than 400 employees. His career has been shaped by a focus on financial discipline, operational excellence, and sustainable growth, while maintaining a strong commitment to customers and employees.

Fenner earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida and later received an MBA from Pepperdine University. His career began in the early 1990s, when he worked in manufacturing, product development, and plant management. These roles gave him valuable experience in cost control, capital project management, and process improvement. His ability to deliver results in these areas led him to senior management, where he guided strategies that expanded product offerings and strengthened market presence.

A significant highlight of his career was leading the Ultralight Wallboard initiative, which introduced the first lightweight drywall technology. He directed a cross-functional team of over 100 people to develop and launch USG’s SHEETROCK® Brand Ultralight Panels. This achievement not only marked a technical breakthrough but also supported the company’s recovery during the Great Recession, showing its ability to connect innovation with business impact.

In later positions, Fenner directed global marketing strategies, expanded visibility through new partnerships, and oversaw commercialization efforts recognized with the CEO Award. As Director of Operations, he managed a division generating more than $495 million annually and created the “Field Champions” program, designed to recognize and retain top performers. Later, as General Manager of the Specialty Ceilings business, he implemented a turnaround plan that raised unit value by 350 percent, improved delivery, and strengthened employee engagement, ensuring consistent profitability.

Outside of his career, he has been active in mentoring, volunteering at schools, and supporting conservation efforts in Colorado. A dedicated family man and marathon runner, he applies the same discipline in his personal life as in his work.
